Jouanna Hassoun
Jouanna Hassoun, who fled to Germany from the civil war in Lebanon and has Palestinian roots, has been active as a political educator for over 15 years. She is a recipient of the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin and an ambassador for democracy and tolerance, as well as co-founder of the educational organisation Transaidency e.V., which was established in 2015 and is also dedicated to humanitarian aid. Her commitment includes addressing the Middle East conflict, anti-Semitism and combating hostility towards Muslims. One of her projects is "Make Hummus Not Walls", which deals with the Israel-Palestine conflict in a participatory and educational way. Humanity and human rights are part of her life's work, and encounters and dialogue are key elements for coexistence. Jouanna has been familiar with the Middle East conflict since her childhood due to her roots. This makes it all the more important for her to provide political and factual information and bring people from different backgrounds together on the basis of what they have in common. Together with Shai Hoffmann, she has produced the Israel-Palestine educational videos, which have played an important role since 7 October and in the context of the ongoing war in Gaza. Together they go to schools and offer a "trialogue" to give pupils and teachers a Braver Space and create room for open discussions.
