Blind Birds

Two bodies are dicovered near a camping site near Salzburg: one man, one woman, both in their midtwenties. There is no obvious connection between the two. The only thing they had in common was a poetry group on Facebook, where they both were active members – Beatrice and her colleagues are at a loss. To find out more, Beatrice herself, using an alias, becomes a member of the poetry group. The poetry exchanged here seems fragmentary to her and she can’t shed the feeling that some of the members are in fact exchanging messages about something far more sinister. Eventually, Beatrice starts to understand what the group is really about: war crimes by mercenary soldiers during the war in the former Yugoslavia. The group has identified a former leading mercenary in a tourist photograph and is set on making him pay for his crimes. They don’t realize that he is watching their every step – and he is willing to go as far as he needs to in order to protect his new life …

The second book in the series around detective Beatrice Kaspary.

Saeculum

They went into the woods to seek the Middle Ages and all the adventures, conundrums and challenges that would arise. Instead, the Middle Ages found them, and a terrible secret was uncovered.

Five days spent deep inside a forest, far away from the nearest village, to live the way people did during the Middle Ages, with no electricity, no mobiles, and not even matches – normally, this would not be Bastian‘s scene. His life revolves around his medical studies, but now he has fallen for Sandra, and she wants him to take part in this live role-play. When they find out about the location, one of the participants, Doro, claims that the place where they intend to gather is cursed. According to a legend, a Count once lived there. He had two sons, a legitimate one and a bastard, who was thrown out of the castle and forced to live a life of poverty, far away. When the Count died, the rejected son pleaded to be allowed to visit his father‘s grave. The rightful heir was afraid that his brother was seeking to secure their father‘s property, and gave orders for the bastard and his followers to be horribly massacred inside the family crypt. Just before he died, the illegitimate brother cursed his relations, the castle and the ground on which they stood. No one who enters this forest, Doro told them, will ever return. Of course, nobody takes her seriously. But then strange things happen and it is impossible to leave the forest. Did they make a mistake in not taking the curse seriously?

Erebos

Erebos – a mysterious computer game which is handed around from one student to another. The game has strict rules: Do not tell anybody that you know about the game, do not tell anybody that you are playing the game and do not tell anybody your nickname. Erebos seems to be an intelligent game which knows everything about its players, their fears, preferences and their desires. One day the sixteen years old Nick also starts to play the game. Quite soon the game turns out to be highly addictive, and even more so because there is apparently no way to stop the game when you want to – it‘s the game itself that “decides” when it is time for a break… And Erebos starts to take over the players‘ real lives, by assigning seemingly harmless and unconnected tasks to each player. But then Erebos tells Nick to do something illegal and when he doesn‘t comply is thrown out of the game. Suspicious, he starts thinking what‘s behind Erebos and decides to search for the person who holds all the strings. Emily, a friend from school helps him… strange things happen and the border between reality and virtual reality begins to disappear…
