Josef Guter

Josef Guter is Germany's foremost writer of popular books on China. Born in 1929, Guter studied humanities, before working in adult education and journalism. Since 1978 he has visited China on eighteen separate occasions and written numerous books on Chinese culture and literary history including Chinesische Märchen ("Chinese Fairy Tales"), Tibetische Märchen ("Tibetan Fairy Tales"), Drachen — Ungeheuer und Glücksbringer ("Dragons: Monsters and Talisman"), Lexikon der Geschichte Chinas ("Dictionary of Chinese History") and Lexikon der Götter und Symbole der alten Chinesen ("The Dictionary of Ancient Chinese Gods and Symbols"). His work is published by prestigious publishing houses such as Fischer and Marix. Josef Guter was awarded the Georg Michael Pfaff Memorial Prize.
